If you would like to visit a city where histories greets you at every turn then look no further than the English capital, London. The ancient city is known for its huge collection of landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the Big Ben. London ranks as one of the top cities in the world in every conceivable ranking that you will come across in the internet.
There are lots of places to explore in London and many feel that even a month’s stay is not enough. If you want a picture perfect London then you must head to Westminster and Royal London where you will come across famous churches, historic buildings and major art centers (though these places will have limited appeal). Visit the famous districts of Kew and Putney where you can visit the famous Kew gardens and spend time in one of the cozy pubs. The West End is considered as one of the smartest areas in London and come to St James and Mayfair to enjoy the stately flavor. There are many places in London where tourists hardly venture but that does not mean that they are any less attractive. The most famous example is South Bank where tourists only go to the Waterloo Station but if you have time then you must visit the Tate Modern Museum and the Southbank Center.
If you have read any of the travel guides on London then you must know by now that there are plethoras of restaurants in the city which offer world class dining. There are upscale dining places alongside the more moderately priced ones which cater to the majority. The more famous and expensive restaurants are located in Kensington, Knightsbridge and Mayfair. Ask anyone about Bibendum or The Greenhouse and they will happily give you the directions. Similarly London is not bereft of grand hotels which have captured the imagination of the tourists with its famed décor and uninhibited pampering. Have you heard of hotel names like Dorchester and the Goring? Well, they are all here in London.
Entertainment options in this magical city are not limited to unknown rock bands. There are gastropubs, comedy cabarets and all-night eating places. For those who like to stay away from the noisy nights, there are legendary shopping options in this city. You can go to Mint in Kensington or Portobello Market in Notting Hill. Selfridges in Marylebone is an excellent option if are willing to splurge.
The main feature of this city is that something new is always coming up in one corner of the city. The “Work in Progress” sign is almost synonymous with this city. Developments are taking place in transport and newer neighborhoods are being brought into the main fold. The city is served by as many as five airports (phew!) and it also boasts of the world’s oldest underground system. It is very difficult to get bored in London and we feel that multiple trips are required to understand, see and feel this city completely. But if you haven’t yet visited London yet then we are sorry to say that you have missed out on the finest part of this world.
