How Much Will It Cost To Stay In Sydney?

Sydney is Australia’s largest and most visited city, and for good reason! Other than the unique Sydney hotels, food trips, and pub crawls; it offers one of the most unique destinations in the world. Sydney is a cosmopolitan city that is surrounded by shopping centres, breathtaking beaches, and world heritage sites. It has become one of the most sought after places, allowing tourists to indulge in a vacation experience unique to Sydney.

Here we will talk about basic information you need to know before going to Sydney, like what accommodation, food, and transportation usually costs. If this is your first time to visit Sydney, this list will definitely help.

Accommodation costs

If you are on a backpacking trip, you probably would be staying in a hostel. In Sydney, hostel price can range from 20-20 AUD for dorm type rooms, while private rooms cost 80-120 AUD.

The prices for hotels vary depending on where in the city you are staying. A budget hotel that is not too near the city centre can cost up to 90-150 AUD, also depending if it is a single accommodation or double. As you get nearer the centre, it can go up until 200 AUD or more.

First time visitors usually go for hotels just so they can focus more on touring the city and get cosy under tons of duvets once they are in the hotel. Some who have been there multiple times would opt for private hostels, the adventurous would often choose dorm type rooms.

However, AirBnB is also an option. It is when locals put up their houses or apartments for rent to tourists who would like affordable accommodation within the local neighbourhood.

Food costs

The good news is Sydney is crawling with awesome hole-in-the-wall restaurants and cafes that offer delectable food without breaking the budget too much.

Affordable food like burgers and sandwiches usually cost up to 14 AUD and you can spend 20-28 AUD at restaurants. The food places near the harbour are usually more expensive because of the view, and some of those are usually high end. Fast food can cost you up to 15 AUD, but the ethnic restaurants offer satisfying meals at 10 AUD.

Transportation costs

There are a lot of options when it comes to transportation. The ferry shows you around the harbour and that usually costs between 5-10 AUD depending on which way it passes. Buses are one of the most commonly used forms of transportation in Sydney, and costs start at 4 AUD for adults. Note that bus fares also have surges, depending on the time of day. As it is always in other parts of the globe, cabs are usually quite expensive. But if you really want to ride a cab, UberX is 40% cheaper.

You can also use the train, a commuter’s favourite, just like the bus. But if your destinations are near each other, you can opt to walk there instead. It allows for more time spent indulging in the sights of the city and getting the chance to walk among the locals.

There are lot of ways you can save just knowing these things about Sydney. So while you are packing your bags and fixing your itinerary, keep these things in mind to help you decide which will give you the most amazing Sydney vacation.

How to Live the Life of an Aussie Visiting Sydney

Sydney is one of the must-see places in the world, and you may have just made the decision to take that trip. The city is magnificent with its beaches and breathtaking sceneries, and the people are a joy to meet. It is one of those experiences you must make the best out of. With so much to do, you need help narrowing it down. Know where to go, what to do, and how to do it right before you even board the plane.

Where to Go

Sightseeing is one of the must-do things in Sydney and that means going from one place to another in order to chill out. Instead of the traditional sightseeing bus, do it Aussie style and get the 555. Of course, it helps to have a geographical knowledge of the area. The 555 shuttle bus is free and it goes around the CBD. You can make the stops you want along the way; be it the Opera House, Circular Quay, or Hyde Park. As a matter of fact, Hyde Park has a free outdoors wine tasting event. For a relaxing walk on the weekend, the Blue Mountains are the ideal choice. Don’t forget then Manly Ferry ride from Circular Quay. This ride offers a view of all the major sights as well.

Aussie Eating and Drinking

It’s not an authentic Aussie experience if you haven’t tasted some of the delicacies. For a truly memorable experience, try the traditional outback food that is making a comeback in the region. Get some excellent meat options such as kangaroo, crocodile, and goat. Newton is the place to be for all these meat choices. Ethnic restaurants are the best bet when looking for cheap places to eat; find a Thai restaurant or Chinese place. There are also small places along the city’s streets that offer something less flashy. Also, nothing says local like stopping at a fish and chips joint in the middle of the day.

Alternatively, you can cook your own meals. There are supermarkets and markets where you can get fresh produce and ingredients. If you are a good cook and want to try out some cultural delicacies, then by all means do it. Beach fests are also a big thing in Australia. You can enjoy a nice barbeque with friends along the beach. Remember to have some shrimps as well and your Australian eating experience will be complete.

For drinks, try The Rock if you don’t like drinking at clubs. It is where you can buy a bottle of wine and take it away to drink at your own pleasure along the harbour. If you want swanky, try a bar in iceberg or Darling Harbour, which has a fireworks display every Saturday. A point to note; Aussies don’t tip. Some few people may have started but it’s not a requirement, especially in bars.

Surf and Catch a Game

A truly Aussie experience comes with a bit of surfing. It is one of the top hobbies for locals. Get a lesson just to see how it feels. Go out and see a few games whether cricket, rugby or football. Aussies love their sports as much as the beach and you will enjoy the live actions at the Sydney Cricket Grounds. Ensure you have your medical travel insurance when engaging in various activities during your travel.
